PART 2

Part 2: A desperate mother uncovers her father’s shocking betrayal and outsmarts her abusive husband by summoning federal agents, only to be confronted by a ghost from her past as she tries to escape
Marco lay motionless on the cold marble floor, his velvet jacket pooled around him like dried blood, but the silence in the grand hall didn’t last a single second.
Elena squeezed her infant to her chest, her knuckles turning white against the emerald-green silk of her gown. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a wild, frantic rhythm that mirrored the storm raging inside the mansion. Across the room, her father stood tall in his grey tweed suit, his chest heaving, his weathered face carved from pure rage. His curly dark-brown hair was wild, his eyes locked onto the fallen man.
“Get the boy and run, Elena,” her father gritted out, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that offered no room for argument. “Now.”
“Father, no—we need to go together!” Elena sobbed, stepping toward him, her platinum hair sticking to the tears on her bruised cheek. “If he wakes up—”
“He won’t be waking up anytime soon,” he snapped, though his eyes darted toward the grand double doors he had just shattered open. “But his men are right behind me. The perimeter is compromised. The drive to the north docks is your only way out.”
Before Elena could step toward the side exit, a faint, wet cough echoed through the cavernous living room.
Marco groaned. His hand, heavy and ringed, twitched against the white marble.
Elena froze, horror locking her knees.
Slowly, painfully, Marco pushed himself up. Blood trickled from his lip, but the smile spreading across his face was chillingly calm. He didn’t look like a defeated man; he looked like a predator that had just baited a trap.
“You always were too predictable, old man,” Marco wheezed, wiping the red from his chin with the sleeve of his dark velvet jacket. He didn’t reach for a weapon. Instead, he reached into his inner pocket and pulled out a small, metallic sleek remote control.
Her father took an immediate step forward, raising his fists. “Drop it, Marco!”
“Go ahead, hit me again,” Marco sneered, his thumb hovering over a single crimson button. “Do it, and I press this. It’s synchronized to the electronic deadbolts on every exit in this estate. But more importantly… it’s synced to the silent incendiary charges I had installed in your father’s estate three hours ago.”
Elena’s blood ran cold. “You’re lying.”
“Am I?” Marco’s dark eyes flashed with cruel amusement as he tilted his head toward her father. “Ask him, Elena. Ask your noble father why he was so quick to burst through those doors. Ask him where he spent the last six years, and who really funded his return.”
Elena shifted her gaze to her father. The old man’s face had gone pale, the fury in his eyes instantly replaced by a stark, terrifying shadow of guilt.
“Father?” Elena whispered, her voice trembling as the baby squirmed against her collarbone. “What is he talking about?”
“Elena, don’t listen to him,” her father said, but his voice lacked its previous iron conviction. He didn’t look at her; his eyes remained glued to the remote in Marco’s hand. “He’s trying to divide us. We have to move!”
“Tell her!” Marco roared, the cold composure cracking into psychotic rage. “Tell her that you sold the child’s trust before he was even born! Tell her you were the one who gave me the key to this mansion tonight!”
The air was sucked right out of Elena’s lungs. The polished marble floor felt as though it were tilting beneath her feet. She backed away from both of them, clutching her child so tightly the baby let out a sharp, piercing cry.
“No,” Elena breathed, shaking her head violently, her platinum bob swaying. “No, Father… tell me it’s not true.”
Her father finally turned his head to look at her, his weathered features contorted in anguish. “I had to protect the family name, Elena. I didn’t know he was going to lay a hand on you! He promised—”
“You traded my son for your debts?” Her voice rose to a shriek, raw and ragged with ultimate betrayal.
“A touching family reunion,” Marco mocked, taking a slow, steady step toward Elena. The air was thick with the suffocating scent of leather, rain, and imminent disaster. “Now, give me the child, Elena. Your father was smart enough to know when he was beaten. Are you?”
Elena looked between the two men—the husband who abused her, and the father who had traded her away like property. There was no rescue coming. There was no sanctuary.
Suddenly, a loud, metallic clatter echoed from the ceiling above them, followed by the deep, heavy thud of multiple boots landing on the floorboards directly outside the living room. Marco’s private security team had arrived.
“Time’s up,” Marco said softly, raising his thumb above the red button. “Hand him over.”
Elena looked down at her infant’s blue eyes staring up at her, entirely oblivious to the monsters surrounding him. A cold, sharp clarity washed over the panic in her veins. If no one was going to save them, she would burn the whole world down herself.
“You want him?” Elena asked, her voice suddenly dead, hollow, and steady.
She took a slow step toward Marco. He smiled, lifting his hand to receive the baby.
Instead of reaching out to him, Elena’s foot swept out with sudden, violent precision, kicking the heavy, iron-base designer floor lamp standing beside the stroller directly into the floor-to-ceiling glass panel behind Marco.
The glass shattered with a deafening explosion of crystal shards and howling wind.
Before Marco or her father could react, a blinding flash of light ignited outside, followed instantly by the deafening roar of a siren—not Marco’s men, but the blare of federal task force vehicles swarming the front gates.
Marco’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. “What did you do?!”
“I didn’t call your men, Marco,” Elena whispered over the rising sirens, stepping backward toward the shattered window frames as the cold night air rushed in, whipping her green gown around her legs. “I called the authorities two hours ago. I gave them the ledger you kept in the safe.”
Marco’s face twisted into a mask of pure terror. He lunged at her, raising the remote. “You ruined us all!”
Her father threw his heavy body forward, tackling Marco mid-stride. The two men crashed hard against the marble, fighting viciously for the remote as the heavy double doors of the room were kicked off their hinges by heavily armed tactical officers shouting orders.
Amidst the chaos, the flashing red and blue lights, and the screams of her father and husband wrestling on the floor, Elena backed out onto the dark terrace into the pouring rain.
She turned to run into the safety of the night, but as her foot hit the wet stone stairs, a dark figure stepped out from the shadows directly into her path.

The figure lowered his umbrella, revealing a face that made Elena’s heart stop entirely—a face she had buried four years ago.
“Hello, Elena,” the man said softly, stepping into the light of the sirens, holding up a sleek black dossier. “Did you really think Marco was the one running this whole operation?”
