Chapter 22 - THE PLEA FAILS OVER ONE SENTENCE

The prosecutor offered Constance a plea.
Admission:
She intentionally took Milo’s stuffed bear and threw it into the active fireplace despite knowing the child was emotionally attached to it.
She understood the child might attempt to retrieve it.
She knew an archive key had been hidden inside.
She acted partly to prevent Lorenzo from obtaining materials that contradicted her representations of Anton’s final wishes.
On the signature count:
She admitted using Anton’s signature image on a foundation directive after being notified that her authority to use it for directives had been revoked.
Recommended:
Short custodial component mostly suspended.
Probation.
No unsupervised contact with Milo.
Counseling.
Restitution for bear conservation, medical evaluation, and related expenses.
Foundation restrictions were separate.
Constance accepted everything except:
“partly to prevent Lorenzo from obtaining materials.”
Her version:
“I wanted the filthy bear gone.”
The prosecutor played the video.
Key falls.
Constance:
“Give me that key.”
Her lawyer said:
“Constance.”
She looked at him.
Then:
“I did not know what the cabinet still contained.”
Not the same as not fearing it.
